Edwin Ray “Eddie” Kollman, 70 of Taylor, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2014. He was born March 14, 1944 in Taylor to Raymond Edwin (R.E.) and Mary Jane Kollman. He was a graduate of Taylor High School and attended Temple Junior College. As a young adult, he was employed by the Texas Department of Insurance and then joined his father in business at R.E. Kollman and Son Cotton Company. Eddie was a prominent businessman in Taylor and ran the cotton office for almost 50 years, and additionally he insured crops for many area farmers through his years as a cotton broker.
Eddie married Janie Ruth Doerr and together they raised three sons.
Eddie is survived by his devoted spouse and friend of forty-seven years, his sons, Steven and wife Debbie of The Woodlands, Texas, John of Lakeway, Texas and Robert and wife Stacey of Shallowater, Texas. Eddie loved his grandchildren and treasured his time with family more than any of life’s other blessings. He has six grandchildren, one granddaughter, Danielle and five grandsons: Christopher, Brennan, Zeke, Eli and Deuce with great memories of beach vacations and fun times with “Meme and Pa.” Eddie is also survived by a brother, John B. Kollman of Arlington, Texas. Extended family includes Ronnie and Clara Doerr of Round Rock, Texas. He is also survived by a sweet little companion (a dachshund) named Schug.
Eddie was a member of the United Christian Church of Taylor where he served as an elder and steward for the care and development of the church. He will be remembered by his many friends as “Rocking Ed” who loved music and good food and good conversation. He enjoyed traveling and going into Austin for dinner with friends or a trip to Barnes and Nobel. Eddie was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Solomon Masonic Lodge #484 in Taylor, Scottish Rite Temple and Ben Hur Shrine in Austin. He was a Past Member of Parsons Lodge #222 of Austin, Texas. In his years in business, he was an active member of the Taylor Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed antique cars and enjoyed attending car shows. He was also a model train enthusiast and enjoyed creating a train village with his grandsons.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening at Providence Funeral Home at 6-8 p.m. Funeral service of Christian burial will be held on Friday at Providence Funeral Home at 2 p.m. The Reverend Clarence Hodrick will officiate the celebration of life. Internment will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Christian Church, P. O. Box 26, Taylor, TX 76574. The family extends appreciation to the Seton medical staff and the many wonderful family friends and churches who provided prayer support, loving care and those who provided rehabilitation support to Eddie over the last three months.
