Annie Marie Simcik Schernik, our loved mother and nana, went with angels to her Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2014. She was 87.
Family will receive visitors during a viewing to be held Wednesday, July 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. On Wednesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. a celebration of life service will be held at the same location followed immediately by a graveside service at Taylor Cemetery with Rev. Walter Miller officiating.
Annie was born August 31, 1926 in Granger to Rudolf Simcik and Mary Pokorny Simcik, the oldest of three daughters. She was baptized October 3, 1926 at Granger Brethren Church and eventually confirmed there on August 20, 1939. She was a hard worker, going to work for Taylor Bedding at the age of 16 and working in several different departments until her retirement from the company in 1991. On January 6, 1946 she married Lawrence W. Schernik, and they were blessed with two children: Janet and Kermit. She loved her children dearly and later in life the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
All her life, she enjoyed playing dominoes and bingo. After Lawrence’s death, she eventually moved to Trinity Care Center in Round Rock, where she was quite active. Known as Ms. Social Butterfly, she was the first to sign up for activities and outings and family had to work their visits around her schedule.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son-in-law Alfred Eiben, nephews Randall Schernik and Edwin Krieg, and six brothers-in-law.
Annie is survived by her daughter Janet Eiben Lillie & husband Jim of Austin and her son Kermit Schernik and wife Deborah of Pflugerville. Her grandchildren are Kilynne Dilts and husband Andy of Albuquerque, NM; Daynette Mingst and husband Mike of Belton; and Kyle Schernik, Kelly Schernik, and Emilie Schernik, all of Round Rock. Annie also has many great-grandchildren: Addison, BJ, Campbell and Sonya Dilts, Gage and Lakyn Mingst, Evelynn Schernik, and Mary Ellen Gifford.
In addition, she is survived by her uncle Anton Pokorny of Taylor; her two sisters, Lillie Krieg of Pflugerville, and Marie Crabb of Taylor; three sisters-in-law, Alice Z. Schernik and Pearl Pokorny of Taylor, and Alice B. Schernik of Round Rock, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbears will be Gage Mingst, Bob Schernik, Doug Schernik, Kelly Schernik, Kyle Schernik, and David Schmidt. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Crabb, Tim Crabb, BJ Dilts, and Anton Pokorny.
Special thanks to all at Trinity Care Center for the love and care provided to Annie during her time there, especially in the finally weeks.
