Betty Manley Hamilton, 89, entered eternal rest on April 29, 2014, at Wesleyan on Scenic in Georgetown. A long time Taylor resident, she was born in Greenville, Texas on January 7, 1925, graduated from Greenville High School, and attended East Texas State Teachers College (now Texas A&M University – Commerce). While working at Majors Army Airfield near Greenville, she met LT Charles Hamilton of Taylor, whom she married in 1944.
Betty, an avid and accomplished cook, loved spending time in her kitchen, trying new recipes and preparing long time favorite dishes for family and friends. Her dill pickles won a blue ribbon at the State Fair of Texas in 1965, and her cornbread dressing recipe was featured in “Made in Texas”, HEB’s 100 th anniversary cookbook.
She will be reunited with parents, Emmett and Jettie Manley; a sister, Neva Mason; and husband, Charles Hamilton, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include brother retired Air Force Maj Tommy L. Manley and wife Peggy of San Antonio; sons Chuck Hamilton of Austin; Denny Hamilton and wife Wanda of Taylor; Gary Hamilton of Taylor; daughter Dee Dee Hamilton of Taylor; stepson retired Army LTC Thomas C. Hamilton and wife Patricia of Buda; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held graveside at Taylor City Cemetery on May 10, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Larry Zabcik officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Texas Lions Camp ( www.lionscamp.com ) or Wesleyan Hospice (www.wesleyanhomes.org/hospice.php). The family would like to thank the staffs at Wesleyan on Scenic, Wesleyan Hospice, and other medical professionals for their care and compassion in recent years.
