Gilbert Herbert Fischer passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Services will be held on Wednesday March 26, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bartlett, Texas at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the adjacent church cemetery.
He was born October 24, 1922, in Bartlett, Texas. He was baptized December 25, 1922 in Frelsburg, Texas and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Bartlett, Texas, on April 18, 1937.
He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1939 after attending Goodeville and Schwertner schools. He graduated from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin in 1941 and worked at Houston, Texas banks until he was drafted into service in the United Stated Army. He served in The Pacific Theater of operations in New Guinea and the Philippines. In 1946, he returned to Bartlett, Texas and began a family farming operation where he was very active until the recent present.
He was very active in the church life of St. John Lutheran Church in Bartlett. He served on the board of directors of the Donahoe Creek Watershed District for over 50 years and served with the local chapter of Germania Insurance for 50 years.
He is proceeded in death by his wife LaVern Tschoertner Fischer, parents, Frank and Meta Schultz Fischer, a brother, Franklin William Fischer, two sisters, Dessie Fischer Zoch and Ruby Fischer Klotz.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Lindemann Janke Fischer of the home; one brother, Clarence Fischer and his wife Esterleen, Bartlett, Texas.
He is also survived by a daughter, Marjorie Peters and husband Mike of Seguin, Texas; Son Franklin Fischer and wife Donna Fischer of Olney, Texas.
Step children, Kim Janke and wife Phillis of Needville, Texas; daughters Brenda and husband Jim Jirasek of Taylor, Texas, and Leanne Janke and Kathy Balusek of College Station, TX
He is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Bartlett, Texas, or to Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, Texas.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Teinert Recreation Center at St. John Lutheran Church, 30650 St. Hwy 95, Bartlett, Texas.
