Vince L. "Jim" Marek, 86, was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Jim died at his home surronded by his loved ones. He was born on September 4, 1927 to Vince Marek and Emilie Janak Marek. He was raised in the Granger Community. He attended SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School. He was a WWII Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He married Isabelle Rosipal on August 31, 1948 in Granger, Texas. They had two sons, Clifton and Melvin.After leaving the service Jim started farming and he was at his happiest on the farm. He lived for his family and his land. His greatest pride was his sons and he was determined that his boys would have it better than he did and he succeeded.Jim was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, SPJST, KJT, and a life member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Annie Mokry, Vicky Roddy, Millie Pavlik, Helen Veselka, Alice Grieger, and Evelyn Klima; and his brothers Henry Marek, E.T. Marek, and Andrew Marek.Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Isabelle, who was by his side from the beginning to the very end. He is survivied by his sonClifton and wife Janis and his son Melvin, all of Granger. He is also survived by one brother, Daniel Marek.Jim is also survivied by his beloved grandchildren, Chad Marek and wife Nikki of Granger; Shelley McGahey and husband Matt of Cedar Park; Brandon Marek of Richmond, Virginia; and Blake Marek and wife Teri of Thorndale. Jim was also blessed with 5 great-grandchildren, Colton and Colby Marek of Granger; Madalyn McGahey of Cedar Park and Bentley and Presley Marek of Thorndale.Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Marek, Kirk Marek, Edwin Marek, Alvin Marek, Sylvestor Brosch, Jr., and Bernard Mokry. Honorary pallbearers will be Anton Schwertner, Gene Finn, Albert Vrana, Sr., Edward Dykowski, Tex Finn, Jimmy Wentrcek, Richard Louis Cervenka, James Svehlak, August Svehlak, III, Larry Svehlak, Larry Kropp, and Nicholas Ramos.
Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014, at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m..
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with Father Stephen Nesrsta officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Granger.
