Mildred Bertha Melber

Mildred Melber was called home by the Lord to become one of his Angels in heaven on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the age of 90.

Mildred was born on August 11, 1923 in Richland, Texas to Willie and Bertha Gebert. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Otto Melber; her parents; her brothers Herbert, Waylon and Leroy Gebert; and her sisters Alvina Spaulding, Loreen Moore and Elnora Melber.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Barbara and her husband Al Mokry; her grandchildren, Dawna and her husband Steve Kelly, Lori and her husband Patrick Veselka, and Clint Mokry and his wife Haley; her great-granddaughters Blaire and Tayler Kelly and Ashley Veselka; her sister Doris Smith; her sister-in-law Hildegard Gebert; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was a compassionate, gentle, selfless person who was loved by all who were blessed to have known her. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as President of the Women's Guild. She worked 27 years for the Texas Department of Public Safety and retired in 1986. After retirement, she heard God's calling to serve others. She devoted the rest of her life as a caregiver for various family members and a volunteer for the residents of Heatherwilde Assisted Living. Mildred was a volunteer at Heatherwilde for eight years and was awarded the "Assisted Living Volunteer of the Year" before becoming a resident herself following a stroke in January of 2009.

Mildred will be missed by everyone whose life she touched, but especially by her family. Her life exemplified the meaning of living in Christ for which we aspire as she becomes our guardian angel.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas.

Celebration of life services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richland, Texas with burial services to follow at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ken Melber, Ken Melber II, Michael Gebert, Randy Gebert, Billy Moore and Gary Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Clint Mokry, Steve Kelly, and Patrick Veselka.
Mildred's family would like to express our sincerest appreciation to the caregivers and staff of: Heatherwilde Assisted Living (Marla, Shirley) for their extra special care and attention provided to her on a daily basis; and Hospice Compassus (Janell and Cheryl) for the attentiveness and compassion during her final days. We are also grateful for Pastor Peterson providing her the uplifting spiritual visits and prayers.
