David Andrew Rhinehart of Taylor, TX, passed away on Thursday, December 26, after a brief battle with metastatic melanoma. He joined his best friend and older brother James Rhinehart to be in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Dave was born March 3, 1951, in Ravenna, OH to Ralph and Margaret Rhinehart. He attended Southern Illinois University and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology. He also met his future wife and best friend, Teri, at SIU.
Dave and Teri settled in Taylor and raised two children, Tracy and Larry. Dave worked for Johns Community Hospital as a Medical Technologist, then as Lab Manager and finally as Assistant Administrator, Clinical Services. He worked for the hospital in total 33 years before “practicing retirement” for a year and obtaining what would be his dream job as a Public Health and Prevention Specialist for the State of Texas.
Dave was an avid sports fan, a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He also grew to love the Texas Longhorns. His greatest joy, though, was watching his grandson play baseball and football and he was a regular both on the fields and in the stands.
Dave is survived by his wife of 41 years, Teri, his children, Tracy Rhinehart, of Hutto, Larry (Laura) Rhinehart, of Hutto, his parents, Ralph and Margaret Rhinehart of Ravenna, OH, brothers Joseph (Betty) Rhinehart, Ronald (Janet) Rhinehart, and Mark Rhinehart, sister Mary Lou (Paul) Staab, all of the Ravenna, OH, area, numerous nieces and nephews, and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Alyssandra and Jakob Rhinehart.
Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Lawrence Rhinehart.
The family would like to thank Dr. Laura Beaty and her nurse, Sheryl, in the Scott & White Hematology/Oncology Department, the nurses and doctors who cared for Dave during his recent hospitalizations at Scott & White Hospital in Round Rock, as well as the Scott & White Hospice team, especially Chaplain Dennis Leedom for their incredible support and compassion shown to both Dave and his wife and children during his illness.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Providence Funeral Home with rosary recited at 6:00 P.M.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dave’s name to the American Cancer Society.
