Helen Lydia Coupland

Helen was born November 11, 1920 to Robert and Lydia (Hart) Blomquist, fourth born of 11 children. She passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at age 93.

On May 10, 1940 she married Stancel Coupland. They were married 58 years until his passing in 1998. In 1945 a daughter, Mary Lu, was born.

Helen and Stancel lived on their farm until 1964 when they moved into town. Helen was an active member of Tenth Street United Methodist Church, holding many positions and singing in the choir for 74 years. Until retirement, she was a loyal employee of the Texas Department of Public Safety for over 20 years.

Her husband and infant son, Jess, preceded her in death. Also preceding her: grandson Brian Keith (B.K.) Marak; brother Robert (Katherine); sisters Lucille Hamilton (John), Elizabeth Powers (Newman), Mildred McDonald (Roger), Esther Rowland, Marjorie Ruth (infant), Dorothy Johnson, and Frances Summers (Norman); sisters-in-law Neta Blomquist and Bonnie Blomquist; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ada (Coupland) and Hugh McLaughlin and Ida (Coupland) and Maurice Wisenbaker.

Surviving are: daughter Mary Lu; brothers Milton (Pete) and Franklin Blomquist; granddaughter and husband, Shelly and Rick Tucker; granddaughter-in-law, Angie Wenzel Marak; great-granddaughter Charlie and step great-grandson Brandon Tucker; step great-grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas, and Raegan Noack; brothers-in-law Harold (Slim) Rowland and Wallace Johnson; and many nephews and nieces. Also, surviving is her other “daughter,” Barbara Nelson Walker.

Pallbearers will be nephews: Glenn Powers, Bob Blomquist, John McDonald, Paul Rowland, David Blomquist and Gene Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews: Andrew McLaughlin, Billy McLaughlin, James Rowland, and Larry Blomquist.

Viewing will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas this Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be at Tenth Street United Methodist Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Travis L. Summerlin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Tenth Street United Methodist Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 851, Taylor, Texas 76574 or a charity of your choice.
