Elwood Harbers passed away on September 21, 2013 at the age of 77. He was born December 18, 1935 the only son of Edward and Elsie (Spieglehauer) Harbers.
He grew up in the Bartlett area, attended the Lutheran School and graduated Bartlett High School. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1958.
Elwood taught school in the May Pearl High School, Thorndale High School and Taylor High School. Elwood taught math, science and vocational agriculture. He also worked for the Texas Animal Health Commission as an inspector in the Brucellosis Program. After Retirement from the Animal Health Commission he worked for the City of Taylor. In recent years Elwood kept busy with his cattle and attending auction sales. Elwood looked forward to Dove hunting season each year. He enjoyed leasing his property to dove hunters each September.
A quote from Granddaughter Lindsay Lopez: “Elwood loved his animals, cattle, goats, rabbits, quail and all of Gods creations. He was always sympathetic to someone in need of help. There was always a smile on his face and everyone who knew or came in contact with him had something kind to say about him. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body. Elwood was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. You could always depend on Elwood. He would always take care of his family. Everything he did was with love and everything he did had reasoning behind it or a lesson to be learned. If you didn’t understand why he was doing something he would be sure to let you know by telling you a story about it. He liked to teach his Granddaughter Lindsay about life when he was a kid, about hunting and how things are in the real world. He was a good family man and teacher.”
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Elsie (Spieglehauer) Harbers, his Father-in-law Herbert Krueger, and his Mother-in-law Frieda Belz Krueger.
Elwood is survived by his Wife Betty Krueger Harbers, his Son Brett Harbers and wife Donna of Taylor, Granddaughter Lindsay Lopez and her husband Jeremy Lopez of Round Rock, brother-in-law Michael Krueger of Round Rock, Sister-in-law Kathy Keese and husband Stanley of Llano, Sister-in-law Paulette McKillop of Austin and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
