Joe Lopez

Joe Lopez of Thrall, Texas, formerly of San Gabriel, Texas, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the age of 86. He was born on March 19, 1927 in Thorndale, Texas to Bentura Lopez and Luz Olivarez.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Victor, Ciprano and Charlie Lopez of Lubbock, Texas and John Lopez of Houston, Texas and sisters Mary Rojas of Houston, Texas and Lola Lopez of Thorndale, Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carlota Lopez, sisters Rosa Rodriguez and Eufima Barrera. Joe was loved by his sons Joe Ben Lopez of Austin, Texas, Ray Lopez and wife Karla of Thrall, Texas, and daughter and caregiver San Juanita Lopez (Janie Simank) of Thrall, Texas. Joe enjoyed attending family celebrations and spending time with his grandchildren. Grandchildren are Christopher Lopez and wife Crystaline of Round Rock, Texas, Rainey Simank of Thrall, Texas and Colby and Dezirae Lopez of Thrall, Texas. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joe was an agriculture worker for most of his life. He farmed for Ike Camp and Irvin Fuessel of San Gabriel, Texas. He loved living in San Gabriel until his health required on-going care. Joe also served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was proud to be a veteran.

Pall Bearers will be Ben Lopez, Ernest Lopez, Ronnie Lopez, Eddie Lopez, Mike Lopez, Cecil Rodriguez, Ray Lopez and Colby Lopez. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Steve Lopez, Chad Richter, Jesse Rojas, Danny Potts, Henry Fuessel, Richard Fuessel and Members of the VFW 4009 (Thorndale).

Friends are cordially invited to visitation with family from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church under the direction of Providence Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Thrall FFA-4H/Joe Lopez. Burial will take place immediately following at the Locklin Cemetery, San Gabriel, Texas.
