Douglas Dwayne Beran “Smiley” of Hutto, Texas passed away in the morning of September 3, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital in Round Rock, Texas after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Doug was born on January 2, 1963 in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to Fred and Colleen (Daw) Beran. He was 50-years-old.
He was currently working for the Texas Department of Transportation. Doug had retired from the Texas Army National Guard, after serving 20 years as a combat engineer.
Doug was a fun-loving, generous man who was a jack-of-all-trades, and someone who could fix just about anything. People often talk about having a friend you can call to get you out of a crisis. Doug was truly that kind of friend. He was always willing to drop what he was doing and lend a helping hand in a time of need. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to classic rock and country music, watching Texas A&M football games, making people laugh, and most of all, spending time with his children, Cory and Kayla.
He is preceded in death by grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Tony Beran and Mr. and Mrs. George Daw and by siblings Tammy Beran and Jason Rude. He is survived by his children Cory Michael Beran of Austin and Kayla Marie Beran of College Station, parents Fred and Kathryn Beran of Taylor and Colleen and Ben Crawford of Benton City, Washington, special friend Jovita Olguin, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and several close friends.
A memorial of his life will be held Saturday, September 7 at 10 a.m. at Providence Funeral Home located at 807 Carlos G. Pkwy Blvd, Taylor, Texas. A recitation of the rosary will follow.
