David Ray Krueger

Services for David Ray Krueger, 72 of Belton, formally of Taylor, were held on Monday, May 6th, at St. John Lutheran Church in Thrall, Texas. The service was officiated by Pastor Jon Bielfeldt of St. John Lutheran in Thrall and Pastor Pat Dietrich of First Lutheran Church of Temple.
He was born on January 14th, 1941 to Edward and Minnie Ganzert Krueger.
He was a graduate of Thrall High School, Blinn College, and Southwestern University and received his Master’s Degree at Texas State University. He was the quarterback at Blinn College and was one of the first baseball scholarship recipients at Southwestern University. He coached baseball and football at Samuel Clemens (Shertz-Cibolo) High School and Taylor High School, including State Championships in 1969 and 1972, and runner-up in 1971. Taylor ISD dedicated the baseball field to Coach Krueger in 1989. In 2001, he was inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. After retirement, he worked as a high school baseball umpire and continued to coach many Little League, Babe Ruth, Colt, and Pony All-Star Teams.
David married his high school sweetheart Marjorie Dvorak on December 21st, 1963.
He taught high school History; was Assistant Principal and then Assistant Superintendent until his retirement from T.I.S.D. in 2011. He was currently teaching part time for Temple College.
He was Past President of Kiwanis Club and St. John Lutheran Church. He was a member of Texas Association School Business Officials, Taylor Chamber of Commerce, Taylor City Planning Commission, Taylor Economic Development Committee, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and a charter member of Taylor Sertoma. He was currently a council member of First Lutheran Church in Temple.
He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, John and Pauline Dvorak.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Belton, sons Mark Bradley of Belton and Wade Allen of Houston, grand children Allison, Aaron and Austin Krueger of Belton. Also surviving are brothers Robert (Tricia) of Nederland, Larry (Jan) of Taylor, Ronald (Pam) of Taylor and Dan (Becky) of New Braunfels, Texas; sister-in-law Shirley Haugeberg (Arnold) of Belton and numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers were Eric Haugeberg, Dr. Jeff Krueger, Ray Gonzales, Mike Richter, Russel Richter, Kenny Cmerek, Larry Safarik, and Doug Kuhl. Honorary Pallbearers were the members of the State Championship 1969 and 1972 Taylor High School Baseball Teams.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Thrall or First Lutheran Church in Temple. Contributions may also be made to the Taylor ISD David Krueger Scholarship (c/o Taylor ISD Central Office).
