Travis Jerrel Summerlin

Travis Jerrel Summerlin passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Wesleyan At Scenic in Georgetown, Texas at the age of 85. He was born on January 14, 1928 in Gatesville, Texas to Virgil and Ora Marshall Summerlin.

He grew up in China Spring, Texas where he attended school. He served in the United States Navy from 1945-1947 and was stationed on Guam, Saipan, and at Camp Miramar in California. Travis married Margaret Lucile Adams on February 24, 1951. She predeceased him on October 3, 2010. Travis and Lucile lived in Waco, Texas and had one son, Travis Lamar Summerlin, born on November 27, 1954.

During his life, Travis worked for the Pearl Distributing Company, the Lone Star Distributing Company, and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the Tenth Street United Methodist Church in Taylor, Texas.

Following his wife’s death, Travis lived with his son in Taylor, Texas. During the last months of his life, he was a resident at the Wesleyan At Scenic in Georgetown because of declining health. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Wesleyan for the loving care they provided Travis during the last months of his life.

Travis is survived by his son, Travis Lamar Summerlin of Taylor, Texas; his sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Frank Clampitt of Waco, Texas; a nephew, Mike Clampitt and wife, Rhonda of Clifton, Texas; and a niece, Karen Clampitt Hernandez and husband Manny of Allen, Texas. He was predeceased by his brother, Virgil Summerlin, Jr.

Services will be held at the China Spring Cemetery in China Springs, Texas on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 3:00 P.M., Dr. Travis L. Summerlin officiating. Memorials may be made to the Tenth Street United Methodist Church in Taylor, Texas or to the Thrall United Methodist Church in Thrall, Texas.
