Doris (Nanny) Turner went to be with Jesus on March 9, 2013. She was born October 8, 1925 in Hare, TX to Arthur Lee and Ada Alice Parker. She married her childhood sweetheart, James Turner, in 1941 at the age of 15 in Thorndale. They moved to Coupland, then Taylor, Austin and back to Taylor. Doris was a member of First Baptist Church of Taylor.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Arthur Parker, Jr. and W. C. Parker.
Survivors include sons Jim Turner and Bobby Turner (Joyce), daughters Carolyn Bowers and Diane Hines (Kenneth), daughter-in-law Sharon Turner, brother Lloyd Parker (Carol), sister-in-laws Velma Parker and Doris Davis, grandchildren Kimberly Turner, Greg Turner (Christy), Cherie Turner (Rob), Teresa Marino (Eric), Lorie Turner, Abby Pyle (Ryan), Brandy Kerbow (Bryan), Emily Bowers, Tim Bowers (Jodi), Ken Hines (Kimberly), Brad Hines (Anne), Tim Knebel, Katherine Knebel and Daryn Gomez. Doris is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many special friends and neighbors.
Doris worked as manager of TX Gold Stamp Co. at HEB in Taylor for many years. She also did the bookkeeping at their service station and their furniture store. She was a teacher and cook at Braker Lane Day Care. The job she loved most was being “Nanny” – raising children in her home – showering them with love, attention, good manners and the best comfort foods in the world.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Providence Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Providence Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at the Salty Community Cemetery.
