Tirso M Gaytan

January 28, 1932 — February 12, 2013

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Tirso M. Gaytan, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Taylor, Texas on January 28, 1932 to Jose and Benigna Gaytan. He was employed for many years at Taylor Manufacturing, finally retiring from Intercraft Industries. He was an avid singer/songwriter and loved to hear his lyrics brought to life by local Tejano artists. He enjoyed being surrounded by his family especially during the holiday season where he would pull out his guitar and play for hours on end. He also spent many hours with his family watching sporting events including his beloved Longhorns, Cowboys, and anything boxing related. Always, the optimist, you would rarely catch him without his warm, infectious smile. Tirso was known for his witty sense of humor and talented singing voice.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Esther Gonzalez Gaytan, sisters Cristina Connors and Macaria Botello, brothers Luciano Gayton and Eugenio Gayton. He is survived by loving wife Lupe Gaytan, children Joe Gayton, Hector Gayton and wife Terry, Mary Landreth, and Sylvia Schmidt and husband Paul, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and six brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons Tobias Gayton, Chris Gayton, Brandon Landreth, and Steven Reyes Jr. along with Arthur Santana Jr. and Paul Schmidt. Visitation and prayer service will begin on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
