Amelia David Pokorny passed away on January 30, 2013 at the age of 96.
Amelia was born to Theresa Kovarek David and Elo David on June 3, 1916 in the Lavaca County town of Bila Hora. The Davids were involved in their church and made farming their way of life. They moved to the Taylor area in 1925 where Amelia went to school at Rice’s Crossing where she excelled in many sports.
She married Anton F. Pokorny in 1935 and then moved to the Pflugerville area where they farmed and raised five daughters. Amelia “MoMo” loved to bake, especially her kolaches. Her kolaches were the best in the county and won many awards with them. Hobbies included working in her vegetable and rose gardens.
Amelia is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws Betty and Ray Blaha of Theon, Evelyn Gebala and the late Bernie Gebala of Temple, Emily and Harley Saathoff of Pflugerville, Irene and C.J. King of Pflugerville, the late Antoinette “Nonnie” and Richard Delancey of Taylor and Jackie and Clifton Kotrla of Taylor. Amelia has 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews of which she was so very proud.
She served as youth leader of Lodge 29 Taylor for many years and directed Beseda Dancers.
Amelia was a true blessing to all of her family and she will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Taylor Brethren Church. Burial to follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
