Elmer Leroy Sigle passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at his ranch just outside of Taylor, Texas.
Leroy was born on May 23, 1930, in Binger, Oklahoma. When he was a teenager, he moved with his mother and Father, Elmer, and Fern Sigle and seven brothers and sisters to Freer, Texas.
Leroy graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Agriculture in 1953. He joined the Air Force as a navigator on his birthday in 1955. On October 20, 1956, Leroy married his high school sweetheart, Bobbie Jensen. He traveled the world while in the Air Force, and he and Bobbie lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for two years where Leroy was stationed. Upon returning to Texas in 1958, Leroy and Bobbie moved to Taylor where he began ranching.
Leroy served as a deacon at Memorial Baptist Church for 50 years. His passions were his family, Santa Gertrudis Cattle, and Texas A&M University. He was known as the “go-to man” at his church, and found it impossible to pass by a stranded motorist without stopping to assist. He was a “jack-of-all trades”, building his own home as well as toys for his children, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was also known to reconstruct contrary hay bales.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Herbert “Bert” Sigle.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jenson Sigle, son, Tony Sigle of Lexington, and daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Kelly Clements of New Braunfels. His sisters and their husbands; Clara Bush, Barbara and Cotton Bridges, Gala and Ray Tipton, and brothers and their spouses; Duane and Lawan Sigle, Gary and Judy Sigle, and Leo Sigle.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, at 11 a.m., at Memorial Baptist Church, 340 West Lake Drive, Taylor, Texas. Graveside services will follow at Lexington City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 90, Taylor, Texas 76574 for the Mexican Mission Program.
