Herman "Buddy" E. Wells, Jr.

Herman Ervel “Buddy” “Sarge” Wells, Jr., 82, of Thrall died Friday, June 22, 2012.

Family visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, 26, 2012 at Providence Funeral Home.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the New Red Rock Cemetery.

Herman was born February 22, 1930 in Red Rock, Texas to Herman, Sr. and Iva (Corbell) Wells.

Herman served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharge as an
E-3 Hospital Corpsman Medic 1 year prior to the Korean War. The honors he received include: National Defense Service Ribbon, WWII Occupation Army/Air Force Ribbon, Korean Service Medal Ribbon, Bronze Battle Star Device Mounted, UN Korean Service ribbon, Republic of Korea War Service Ribbon, US Army Good Conduct Ribbon, Korean Defense Service, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, 24th Division Patch, 40th Division Patch, Korean “The Forgotten War” Patch, Navy Commander Ribbon, and Hospital Corpsman Rating 3rd Class. While in the service he was wounded (shot) twice and was also a P.O.W. for a short time.

Following his military career he married the love of his life, Emma A Wells in 1960. They were blessed with one girl and four boys. While living in Austin he began a lifetime career as a self- employed painter. Among his most important works the University of Texas not only contracted him, but trusted him to paint their Tower Clock in real 24ct gold leaf around 1974. He also painted the Governor’s Mansion and much more.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Iva Emily Wells; 2 brothers, John and Jimmy Wells; a sister, Betty Wells.

Herman is survived by his wife, Emma Wells of Thrall; sons, William David Wells, Thomas Eugene Wells and wife Trish Tuttle, Emory Wells and wife Julie, and Leonard Allen Wells and wife Cynthia all of Thrall; daughter, Kathy Mae Wells of Austin; grandchildren, Michael and Ammi of Thorndale, Megan, Amber, Hanna, Emily Wells of Thrall, and Stevie Samilpa and wife Raquel of Austin; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Keith Taylor of Canyon Lake; 4 step-granddaughters, Sommer, Audra, Cassie and Chandra of Round Rock.
