Edna Tonn

Edna Mae Pokorny Tonn, 82, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2012 at Park Valley Inn in Round Rock. She was born June 13, 1929 in Port Acres, Texas to Wilbur B. Glass and Myrtle Siau Perkins. She was raised in Vidor, Texas where she attended school.

Edna moved to Taylor when she was 16 years old and met the love of her life, Louis (Porky) Pokorny who was working at Diamond Inn. They married on December 17, 1946 and worked together at Diamond Inn until 1962 when they started their own business, Porky’s Drive Inn. After Louis passed away in 1974, Edna worked several places over the years, working at the University of Texas as a janitor, at Bassler and lastly Wal Mart where she served as a door greeter until she retired in 1995. Edna was married to Ruben Tonn in 1977. Edna loved the Lord and she loved people and always had a smile and contagious laugh. She was a member of Christ Fellowship Church and the Johns Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Edna is survived by her son, Harry Pokorny and wife Barbara of Austin and daughter Barbara Patschke of Hutto. She is also survived by her grandson Keith and wife HeatherBlu Patschke of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and a granddaughter, Shelby Patschke of Taylor. Edna loved her great-grandchildren, Freedom, Roxy and Colt Patschke of Port St. Lucie, Florida. She is also survived by her brother, William Meyers of Toledo Bend, sister-in-law Pearl Pokorny of Taylor and brother-in-law Frank Chasak of Holland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Ann Pokorny, sister Bobbie Chasak and son-in-law Al Patschke.

Edna’s family wants to thank the nursing staff at Park Valley Inn who took such good care or our mother over the past year. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made the Christ Fellowship Building Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Celebration of life services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at Christ Fellowship Church located at 1517 McLain Street in Taylor. Burial will take place in the Taylor City Cemetery.
