Margaret Stephens, 81, passed away April 30, 2012 peacefully at Granger Villa Nursing Home in Granger, Texas after a brief battle with cancer.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, May 4th at 10:30 am at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 3rd from 6:00-8:00pm, also at Providence.
Margaret was born January 14, 1931 in Seward Junction, Texas to Jimmy Ebb and Martha Dykes. She attended school in a one room school house growing up, but then moved to Liberty Hill, where she graduated in 1948. She married Melvin Jett Stephens on January 8, 1953 and moved to Georgetown. Soon after, they had a son, Melvin Mart (Marty) on April 1, 1955. On July 21, 1966, they had twins, Marcia and Michael. Soon after the birth of their twins, the Stephens family moved to Taylor.
Margaret, a homemaker, was an active member of the Tenth Street United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also active in the PTA and Band Boosters.
Margaret is survived by sons: Marty Stephens and Michael Stephens of Taylor; daughter Marcie Svatek and husband Dennis of Taylor; two grandchildren: Courtney Svatek of Houston and Stephen Svatek of Taylor; four sisters: Pauline Wilson Chestnutt, Velma Goertz, Thelma Ramsey, and Ruth Nell Morris; two sisters-in-law: Reba Widmer and Bernice Stewart; four brothers-in-law: Glenn Widmer, Ray Stewart, Andrew Roy Ramsey, and Jim Chestnutt, and countless extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melvin Stephens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Granger Villa Nursing Home. Our family would like to especially thank the staff of Granger Villa for providing loving care over the past few years. Words cannot express the love and respect that we have for this kind group of caregivers.
