Valrie Wittliff

Valrie “Toby” Wittliff, 100, of Coupland, died Monday March 26, 2012 at Scott and White Hospital in Taylor.

Toby was born October 3, 1911 on her grandfather George Sutton’s farm near Sweet Home, Texas. She was the only child of Frank Charlie and Myrtle (Sutton) Halupa. When she was three years old the family moved to the Coupland area where she lived for most of her life. She attended the Barker School on Boggy Creek, Coupland School, and graduated from Taylor High School in 1931.

On November 16, 1940 Toby and Theodore Julius “Ted” Wittliff Sr. were married in Coupland and farmed near there until Ted retired. In 2002 Ted passed away and the next year Toby moved to S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living as one of the first three residents.

She was a long time member of Herman Son’s and St. Peters United Church of Christ in Coupland.

Toby was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and step-father Julius Wittliff.

Survivors include one son; Ted Wittliff, Jr. and wife Cynthia of Richardson, one grandson; T. J. Wittliff, III of Marion, Iowa, two granddaughters Alyson Wittliff and Elizabeth Wittliff of Richardson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor from 6 – 8 pm on Saturday March 31. Funeral services will be held Sunday April 1 at St. Peter’s Church of Coupland at 2 pm followed by burial in the church cemetery.
