Horace T. Barron

Dr. Horace T. Barron who was born on May 29, 1919, to William Baty and Verna Ferguson Barron in Rock Prarie, Texas, died peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the age of 92 in the SPJST Rest Home in Taylor, Texas. He was a veterinarian known to many in Taylor and the surrounding area where he practiced and owned the Taylor Veterinary Hospital from 1950 to 1967. He was a member and president of the Taylor Kiwanis Club in 1956 and served on the City Commission. He was president of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association in 1960.

After moving from Taylor, Dr. Barron joined the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in the department of medicine and surgery. In 1974 he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he was a professor and head of the Large Animal Department at the University of Tennessee. He was brought in to help establish Tennessee’s first College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon retirement in 1989, he returned to Taylor, becoming active in the Rotary Club and other community projects.

He is preceded in death by his adored wife, Leila, in 2000. He is survived by a daughter, Pat Pemberton and husband, George, and son, Bruce Barron and wife, Carol, all of Taylor. Also surviving him are his grandchildren: James Kincl of Mount Bellview; Kelly Kincl and wife Evelyn of Baytown; Laurel Kincl and husband Kevin Huck of Carvillas, Oregon; Brittani Strickland and husband Chad of Lubbock; Rebecca Hunt and husband Eric of Pflugerville; and Kelly Hague of Taylor. Seven great grandchildren who will miss him are Kelly M. Kincl, Kimberly Kincl, Callie Adams and husband Stetson, Kara and Hayden Hunt, and Austin and Bennett Hague.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 2 pm at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to his favorite charity, The Alzheimer’s Association. We would like to give special thanks to Sandy and Olga and the other helpers from Scott and White Hospice and to the staff at the SPJST Rest Home and Assisted Living for all the love and care they provided for him.
