Della Defrese

January 1, 1929 — December 30, 2011

Della Faye (Morgan) DeFrese of Taylor Texas departed this world Friday December 30, 2011 at age 82. She is survived by her son Jerry David DeFrese and her daughter-in-law Jeannie DeFrese. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years James W. DeFrese, her father John David Morgan, her mother, Eunice Morgan, and her sister Clarice Morgan Gore. She will be remembered as a loving and generous Mother, Wife and friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Della grew up in East Texas, mainly in Jacksonville Texas, where her father owned an auto repair shop and a GMC dealership. She and her sister Clare graduated from Jacksonville High School.
Not long after, she met Jim who was just out of the army ( US Army Occupation Forces In Japan) and working in the oilfields in East Texas. They were married May 7, 1949 and for the next 62 years worked to build a comfortable home and life together.
Jim hired out to the Missouri Pacific Railroad and worked as a conductor for the next 40 years. In April 1950 their only child Jerry David DeFrese was born. Della devoted herself to making a comfortable, caring home for her family. Jim's railroad job determined where they might live- Palestine, Brazosport or Taylor, Texas.
Della had many interests and hobbies throughout her life. She was constantly busy with sewing, quilting, gardening, refinishing furniture, working in the church library or day care. She was always busy with a project. When their son Jerry left home for college she decided to go back to work. She started as a checker at a local grocery but quickly became the assistant manager. She was quick to learn, a hard worker and her efficiency was noticed and rewarded.
She was a good friend, a devoted wife, and the best mother. Della touched many with her love, advice and dry humor. She will be missed by all.
Many thanks to Della's personal caregivers: Delores, Yolanda and Angela. They looked after Della with loving care as she struggled with Alzheimers. Thanks also to the staff at Colonial Gardens Memory Care Community: Michelle, Valerie, Donte, Tim, Larry, Roxanne, Tiffany, Mina, Sunshine, Melody and everyone else who made Mom's stay there as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. The effort is truly appreciated. In addition thanks to the care of the Doctors, nurses and staff at Scott and White Hospital Round Rock.
Services will held at Providence Funeral Home, Taylor Texas Tuesday January 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery
