Norman Robert Stauffer, 88, of Taylor, TX, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the East Texas Medical Center in Athens, TX. Our beloved, father, “Papa” and “Great Papa” will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
Norman was born on October 6, 1923, in Taylor, TX, to Fritz Conrad and Emma (Gesch) Stauffer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Bern. He grew up in the Beyersville area and attended Beyersville school, graduating from Taylor High School in 1941. He then went on to attend Draughans Business School in Dallas, TX. Norman served his country in World War II in the 941st Field Artillery 1st Army and was given an honorable discharge in November, 1945. He worked as the Manager at Williamson County Equipment Company in Taylor for 40 years and retired in 1986. Norman was a longtime active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Taylor, a member of the American Legion and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was joined in marriage with Artie Mae Herzer, on January 31, 1944, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Bern.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alvin (Ollie) Stauffer, his loving wife of 59 years, Artie Mae Stauffer and grandson, Brian Conrad Stauffer.
Norman leaves behind a loving daughter, Barbara Schiller of Temple, TX, and son, Larry Stauffer and wife Sarah, of Athens, TX.
He is also survived by his five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Ashley Dugas and husband Clifton of Dallas, TX, Nicole Kummer and husband Bobby of Boone, NC, Kristen Jackson and husband Anthony of Allen, TX, Robin Silvey of Rockdale, TX and Todd Stauffer and wife Ann of Austin, TX, Kelley Shand of Athens, TX and Jason Shand of Annapolis, MD. He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Madison McGinnis, Jack Milam and Anderson Dugas, Haley, Ally, Skylar and Luke Jackson, Zach Stauffer, Aubrey Zientek, Caden Silvey and Addy Stauffer, daughter of Brian Stauffer and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Douglas Curran and his staff at the East Texas Medical Center in Athens, TX, for their exceptional care of Norman during his brief battle with cancer and to daughter-in-law, Sarah, for her love and devotion. The family is very grateful to all of Norman’s many friends and family who kept him in their prayers and his spirits high.
Pallbearers will be Todd Stauffer, Zach Stauffer, Clifton Dugas, Jack Milam, Bobby Kummer, Anthony Jackson, Kelly Cmerek and Robert Scruggs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Stauffer, Werner Stauffer, Norman’s breakfast group and McDonald’s coffee group, friends from the Senior Citizens, and his caring neighbors.
Visitation is set for Sunday, December 18 from 5 to 7:00 PM at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 19 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Taylor with Pastor Gary Veit officiating and burial will follow in the Taylor City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
