Helen Fuentes, 85, of Taylor passed away December 5, 2011 at home.
Helen was born August 18, 1926 in Round Rock, Texas to Cirillo and Maria Amaro. She is preceded in death by her parents, her seven siblings and beloved in-laws, Ed and Amalia Fuentes. She is survived by her sons, Reuben R. Fuentes and wife Nancy, and Rodney A. Fuentes and wife Sue. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Hoyos and husband Erik, Benjamin Fuentes and wife Allison, and James Fuentes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen moved to Taylor upon her marriage to the late Reuben A. Fuentes and began her career as a grocer. She later became the sole owner/operator of Fuentes Food Store located on South Main Street in Taylor. She was a fixture at that location for many years before transitioning to her cashiering career as a 15 year Wal-Mart associate where she was a daily presence until shortly before her death. She was well known as Ms. Reuben or Ms. Helen. Not only did she make the time to raise two sons while operating a successful business, but she was an amazing influence on her grandchildren.
Helen most enjoyed meeting and interacting with the public and appreciated going to work every day. She also found pleasure in the occasional Louisiana casino trip with close friends.
She leaves behind her family and everyone who has ever passed through her register. She was a remarkable woman.
Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. and Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 9, 2011 at Providence Funeral Home. Burial to follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
