Elmer H. Zeplin went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 13, 2011. Elmer lived a long and blessed life most of which he spent with his beloved wife Laura of 66 years who preceded Elmer in death.
Elmer was born on September 26, 1915 to Ella (Wuthrich) and Gus Zeplin in Taylor, Texas. He graduated from Taylor High School. He was baptized, confirmed and married at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where he met his Schatzi, Laura Priesmeyer. Elmer’s greatest joy was his life with Laura. Tears still came to his eyes when he talked of Laura after her passing in 2006.
Elmer and Laura built a life together in Taylor and were life-long members of the Taylor community and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He spent his life farming and raising his family on the land which his grandfather, Gus Zeplin, purchased in 1905. Anyone could turn into the drive of the farm and know the kind of man Elmer was. It was a picture-perfect place with a warm and quaint charm. He enjoyed the barns being neatly painted and the fields in neat rows with cotton plants bearing the bolls of his hard work. Elmer was a kind, sensitive and hard working man who built his life around family. Laura, her brothers and his own siblings all lived close by and were an integral part of his life.
Elmer enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes with his friends, and visiting Williamson County Grain each morning to catch up on the latest news or to celebrate birthdays or other events. His favorite birthday celebrations were held the last few years at Walburg’s German Biergarten. He enjoyed the German music and the laughter of his friends and family. Elmer will be greatly missed, but we all take comfort in knowing he is up in heaven holding his Schatzi’s hand and is at peace looking down over all of us.
Elmer is survived by his son Larry Zeplin and wife Patty of Taylor; daughter Yvonne Zimmer and husband Richard of Pflugerville; sister Elda Heselmeyer and husband Willie of Taylor; brother Albert Zeplin of Taylor; and grandchildren: Kelly Kaatz and wife Yvonne of Johnson City, Kami Pogue and husband Randy of Georgetown, Matt Zeplin of Taylor and Carrie Middlebrooks and husband Reid of Porter, Texas and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial to follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
