Gertrude Annis Porter, age 91, of Taylor, TX, died September 30, 2011.

She was born June 23, 1920, in Thorndale, TX to Annie and Max Westerman Sr. She spent her early years in Thorndale, TX as the fourth of eight brothers and sisters. On September 21, 1947, she married Ben Clark Porter in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Navy Chapel. The two met in California where they were both officers in military service: he in the Marine Corp and she as a registered nurse in the Navy. Captain Ben Porter was killed on September 2, 1953, as the result of an accidental explosion while disposing of Class III Aircraft Bombs. USMC Causality Report 114374 at K6 Air Base, Pyongtaek Korea. Following this event, she lovingly raised her two daughters in Taylor, TX. She was also active in the lives of her grand-children and great grand-children. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Taylor, TX.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Broussard; her mother and father, four brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by her sister Ann Johnson, daughter Susan Goetz, grandchildren Robin Cansler, Lauren Sweeney, Brad Goetz, and Kristen Pircher, and five great grand-children.

Visitation will be 10:00–11:00 A.M., Friday, October 7, 2011 at Providence Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 7, 2011 at Providence Funeral Home. Rev. Walter Miller is officiating.

Burial will be at the City of Taylor Cemetery.
