Gilbert Saenz

Gilbert Ortiz Saenz passed away peacefully and entered God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Thursday, September 8, 2011.

He was born November 7, 1949 in Taylor, TX, to Maria Ortiz Saenz and Rudolph Saenz, Sr.

He graduated from Taylor High School in 1968 and went on to further his studies at Temple Jr. College and Southwest Texas State University. He completed his degree in Computer Technology from Southwest School of Electronics. He was employed by the City of Austin Electric Department as an Information Technology professional and upon his passing, Gilbert was a business development consultant as President of MicroSouth International. While a student at SWTSU Gilbert was a strong advocate of social justice, and was instrumental in addressing issues affecting social and racial equality at the local and state levels. He also had a strong humanitarian awareness of the needs for the Haitian people when he embarked there on a relief program in the aftermath of the 2010 Haitian earthquake.

Gilbert expressed a great love of Jesus Christ, family, friends, the oppressed and less fortunate.

He is preceded in death by his father Rudolph Saenz, Sr., and his sister Emma Saenz Gonzales.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother Maria Ortiz Saenz; son Christopher Saenz; sisters Velia Saenz Williams (Michael) and Alyce Lottman (Frank); brothers Rudolph Saenz, Jr., (Norma); Enrique Saenz, all of Austin; and brother Alfred Saenz (Deborah) of Houston, TX; numerous nieces and nephews, former brother-in-law Severiano Gonzales of Austin, TX; many other relatives, friends, and associates.

Visitation will be held at Providence Funeral Home, Taylor, TX, on Sunday, September 11, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, Austin, TX, on Monday, September 12, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Cook Walden Capital Memorial Park in Pflugerville, TX.

In his memory, charitable contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or a Hospice Care organization of one’s choice.
