Lena Louise Rieger, 102, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

Lena was born February 23, 1909 to Emil Johann Witte and Amanda “Mandy” Diebel Witte. On December 20, 1932 Lena married Charlie Louis Rieger.

Lena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong resident of the Taylor community. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul, Catholic Daughters and various other church activities.

She was a strong willed, quiet person who loved flowers and gardening. She was blessed with a very long and healthy life. Lena enjoyed working on the farm and was a very hard worker. She saw the good and humor in most things. The one and only hospital stay she had, she was asked by the doctor “what brings you here?” She replied “the ambulance.”

Lena is predeceased by her parents, husband, four brothers Rinehart, Robert, Walter and Albert Witte, and four sisters, Leona Rieger, Lillie Bachmayer, Natalie Witte and Nellie Frerich.

She is survived by her children, Nelda Verne Torres and husband Ray, and Charles Norman Rieger and wife Leona. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patricia and Janice Bittner, Malinda Lee and husband Mike, and Karen White and husband Brett. Lena is also survived by six great-grandchildren Ryan, Megan, Diana and Darren Lee and Kelsey and Kayla White.

Visitation will be 6-8 P.M. on Friday, April 8, 2011 at Providence Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. Celebration of Mass will be 10 A.M. on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylor, Tx. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
