Catherine A. Holubec

November 26, 1932 — March 13, 2011

Catherine Kasparek Walker Holubec, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Taylor, Texas on Sunday March 13, 2011. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Catherine was born November 26, 1932 to Albert F. Kasparek and Lillian Mohel Kasparek, in the home her parents built.
Catherine graduated from Taylor High School in 1950 and then attended Durham’s Business College in Houston, Texas. After finishing her education, she was employed at Dye Welding Supply in Houston. Also, while living in Houston, she was employed in the medical field as a secretary. She worked in the offices of Drs. LM Flanary and Joe D. Walker. On April 17, 1955 Catherine married Calvin Walker of Brookshire, Texas. After they divorced in 1963 she returned to Taylor and worked for Drs. Suehs and Powell in Austin at the Ear Nose and Throat Clinic for fourteen years. In April of 1977 she met and fell in love with Marvin Holubec; they were married December 30, 1977. She helped him operate the Blazilmar Hotel, and later the Granger Coffee Shop. In May of 1982 she gained employment as a court clerk for Judge Judy Hobbs, J.P. Pct. 4, in Taylor. Her final employment was as secretary for the Taylor Brethren Church.

After retirement she kept busy by volunteering for her community. She served on the Johns Community Hospital Auxiliary and worked at the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store. She was an active member of the Taylor Brethren Church, singing in the choir and participating in the Christian Sisters, including serving as the President of the Christian Sisters Union of the State of Texas. She was also a charter member of the Taylor Czech Chorus and performed at numerous events around the state. She served on the Human Rights Committee for Adults with Disabilities and was a member of the Texas State Association of Retarded Children. She also participated in the Mentoring Program at Pasemann Elementary School in Taylor for twelve years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Lillian Kasparek; one brother, Albert D. Kasparek; and one nephew Albert Kasparek, III.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Marvin Holubec; one daughter, Diana Walker of Pflugerville; one son, David “Linn” Walker of Cedar Park; two step-sons, Gary Holubec of Taylor and Daniel Holubec of San Antonio; two granddaughters, Kristen Holubec of Austin and Kimberly Holubec of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and two great granddaughters, McKenzie and Madison Cook of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Also, two sisters-in-law, Georgia Kasparek of Pflugerville and Maxine Holubec and husband, Alvin, of Taylor. And, one niece, Amy Androff and husband Keith of Amarillo and their children, Adam, Pam, Amanda, and Eric.

The Holubec family is grateful for the loving care provided by the staff with Hospice Austin. The family would like to especially thank Mudita Tuell for all the loving care she provided to Catherine during her illness. The comfort Mudita provided to Catherine will always be remembered by her family.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:30 a.m. March 17, 2011 at the Taylor Brethren Church followed by a lunch in the fellowship hall. Reverend Jimmy Hejl will officiate.
