Valasta Sophie Martinek Supak (92) went home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 17, 2011, at 9:55 p.m. She was born on September 19, 1918, in Columbus, Colorado County, Texas, to John and Mary Johec Martinek.
She attended Santa Ana School near Ellinger, Texas.
On October 5, 1937, she married her “Sweetie” John Anthony Supak at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Hostyn Hill, near Ellinger. Thereafter, they were engaged in farming, first in Colorado County, then in Granger. In 1953, they purchased and settled on the family farm in Beyersville. They worked side by side nurturing the land, livestock, their children and each other.
Valasta was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She had a strong love for her Church and family, particularly her thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Taylor, and St. Mary’s Altar Society. She volunteered time for the St. Vincent De Paul Store. She loved to bake, cook, and can, and her kolaches and strudels were coveted and always quickly disappeared.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her only sister, Clara Ann Jurajda, and her daughter-in-law, Pat Supak. She is survived by her children: Dr. James Supak and wife, Pat; John Supak and wife, Virginia; Frank Supak and wife, Bridget; Marilyn Rapp and husband, Mike; Ellen Blank and husband, Donald; JoAnn Hromadka and husband, Donnie; Elaine Reeves and husband, Doug; her thirteen grandchildren: Wayne Supak and wife, Amy; Karen Walter and husband, Brian; Janet Koslovsky and husband, Randy; Laura Morgan and husband, Mark; John Supak, James Supak, Bridget Supak, Suzanne Krueckeberg and husband, Kevin; Michael Blank and wife, Mindy; Brian Blank, Matt Reeves and wife, LeShell; Mark Reeves; Stephanie Greger and husband, Ryan; and thirteen great-children: Casey Supak; Talon Supak; Kimberly Walter; Whitney Walter; Benjamin Walter; Brandon Koslovsky; Ashlyn Koslovsky; Luke Morgan; Kate Morgan; Amber Morgan; Emily Reeves; Fen Reeves and Jaedyn Blank, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the SPJST Rest Home staff for their loving care and attention.
Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday, February 21, 2011, at Providence Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 PM Monday.
Celebration of Life Mass will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylor, with Msgr. Lonnie Urban officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
