Bernice Griffin, 68, of Austin passed away Friday, January 21, 2011.
Bernice Josephine Hargers was born March 1, 1942 to Mr. Earnest Hargers and Mrs. Estella Hargers in Irene, TX.
Bernice grew up and attended public school in Thorndale, TX. She was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost in her youth. Upon relocating to Lubbock, TX, Bernice was united with the Christ Temple COGIC, where she served faithfully until relocating back to the Austin area. Her spiritual journey took her to the Open Door COGIC under the leadership of Elder Anthony Walker where she served on the Mothers Board and loved her church dearly until her demise. Bernice enjoyed a career which spanned over twenty years as an educator in the Lubbock ISD shaping and impacting the lives of countless kindergarten students.
She married Henry Griffin on March 23, 1962 and this union included six children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Griffin; father Earnest Hargers; daughters Evelene and Glodene Griffin; sister Allie Mae McNeal; brothers L.C. Hargers, Robert Lee Hargers, Sr., Bobby Ray Hargers and Larry Hargers.
She leaves to cherish fond and precious memories: mother Mrs. Etella Hargers, Thorndale, TX; daughter Brenda Jones (Dwight), Houston, TX; sons James Gipson, Austin, TX, Danny Griffin (Brenda), Lubbock, TX, and Bernard Griffin (Valerie), Austin, TX; grandchildren April Gipson, Jasmine Gipson, Jalyssa Griffin, Khiry Griffin, Krystle Griffin, Aesha Griffin, Danny Griffin, Jr., Jaylon Griffin, Neveah Jones; sisters Helen Livingston, Denver CO, Mattie Griffin (Garfield), Lubbock, TX, Annie Marie Williams, Denver, CO, Rosetta Pleasants, Pflugerville, TX, Dorothy Ware, Thorndale, TX, Birdia Johnson (William), Hutto, TX, and Earnestine McClendon (Vaughn), Cedar Park, TX; brothers A.D. Hargers (Brenda), Lubbock, TX, Eugene Hargers (Carol), Pflugerville, TX, and Curtis Hargers, Round Rock, TX, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at First Baptist Church on Robinson. Burial will follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
